Five Hermits Garner All-State Team Honors

July 16, 2017

The Hermit Rugby Program reached new heights this Spring, capped off by a triumph over long-time rival Delbarton to secure the program’s first NJ State Championship. To the victor goes the spoils as the state title was followed by the selection of five members of the team to the Gold Division (Single School) All-State Team. The recipients of this honor are chosen by the Rugby Coaches of NJ; Hermit Rugby’s five selections were the most of any qualifying rugby side in the entire state.

The NJ All-State Team was honored during a ceremony held in Summit, NJ on June 28, 2017. NJ All-State selections included the following Hermit Rugby Players: Adam Borai ’17 (Prop), Joshua Daids ’17 (Flanker), Sean Lenzsch ’18 (Eight Man), Devon Matthews ’18 (Wing), and Shane Goldsmid ’17 (Center).

In addition to the All-State honors, several players that qualified for the NJ RCT Team were also recognized. Those players included: Adam Borai (’17), Sean Lenzsch (’18), Stephen Goralski (’18), and Connor Hohman (’19).

The evening was capped off with a presentation from NJ Rugby Alumnus Eamonn Matthews who inspired all present with his words and advice.

The 2017 All-State selections along with the balance of the 2017 Hermit Rugby state championship roster and family has set the standard for all teams that follow!
