This Fall the Hermit Rugby Program went undefeated against NJ competition at both the single-school and club level and was able to consistently compete with out of state programs and clubs. This is the second time the Hermits have captured a Fall 7’s Championship, the first was in 2015.
For the first time in the Program’s history, three separate teams competed in each tournament weekend – two U-19 sides and a U-16 side. This is evidence of how well the sport is catching on at the Prep and how much fun the sport is as a whole.
According to Coach Towell, “Sevens is really catching on at the Prep and it is an excellent springboard for young players to get familiar with the game and prepare them for Spring 15’s. The game is more free and accessible and normally easier for new players and parents to understand.” This certainly doesn’t mean you can’t play in the Spring without playing in the Fall. In fact, the Hermit Rugby Program is able to include players who are exclusive to Fall 7’s, exclusive to Spring 15’s, and a core group who play in both seasons.
“Part of what makes Rugby so attractive at the Prep is the fact we are so accommodating. We have two separate seasons with separate schedules, rosters, and championships. We can accommodate both the Fall & Spring athletes and I think that goes a long way. Also, no prior experience is required to play – we look forward to teaching you a game you can play for years after the Prep!”
